Sustainability at Ochre Knitwear

Ethical knitwear made in Nepal, with natural fibres and a lighter footprint.

Ochre Knitwear is a family-run British brand making cashmere, lambswool, linen and organic cotton knitwear through skilled production in Kathmandu. Our approach to sustainability is practical: choose better fibres, make garments carefully, support long-term work and design knitwear that lasts.

A Clearer Promise

Sustainability should be visible, not vague.

We do not believe sustainable fashion should be hidden behind large promises. For Ochre, it begins with the choices a customer can understand: natural fibres, skilled making, responsible sourcing and garments made well enough to stay in use.

Our organic cotton and linen yarns are GOTS certified, and our wider knitwear collection is built around natural fibres such as cashmere blends, lambswool, merino, linen and cotton. Each piece is made with attention to comfort, quality and longevity.

The aim is not to make more clothes faster. The aim is to make knitwear with care, so each piece earns a long life in your wardrobe.

Our Principles

Four things guide how Ochre makes knitwear.

01

Better fibres

We choose natural fibres for softness, warmth, breathability and lasting wear, including GOTS certified organic cotton and linen.

02

Close production

Our knitwear is made in Kathmandu, where hand-machine knitting, dyeing, assembly and hand finishing are carefully managed.

03

Less waste

We plan production thoughtfully, avoid unnecessary waste where possible and focus on pieces made to outlast seasonal trends.

04

People matter

Stable work, training, good facilities and long-term relationships with makers are part of what sustainability means to Ochre.

The most sustainable garment is one that is made with respect, loved often and kept for a long time.

Natural Fibres

Materials chosen for comfort, quality and responsibility.

Natural fibres sit at the centre of Ochre Knitwear. Our collection includes cashmere and lambswool blends, merino, organic cotton and linen, each selected for the way it feels, wears and returns value over time.

We are especially proud of our GOTS certified organic cotton and linen yarns. GOTS gives customers a recognised standard for organic textiles and supports clearer, more responsible sourcing.

Organic cotton

Soft, breathable and GOTS certified where used in our pure organic cotton garments.

Linen

A natural fibre valued for breathability, texture and long-wearing seasonal comfort.

Cashmere blends

Chosen for warmth and softness, blended thoughtfully for durability and everyday wear.

Lambswool and merino

Natural wool fibres selected for warmth, resilience and comfort.

Made In Kathmandu

Ethical production starts with the people who make the clothes.

Ochre’s production story is rooted in Kathmandu, Nepal. More than 70 people work at the factory, and many have been part of the company for years. The work is skilled, patient and hands-on.

Garments are knitted on hand machines, then dyed, assembled, hand-finished and checked. Keeping this process close helps Ochre maintain quality while supporting training, stable employment and better working conditions.

Customers should know where their knitwear comes from. That clarity is part of the trust we want to build.
